Our History

Beginning

Pottershouse Apostolic Church St. Mary's began under the name of Greater Morning Star Pentecostal Church II of St. Mary’s County on July 18, 1993, as a small fellowship of believers meeting at what was then known as the Patuxent Inn Hotel in Lexington Park, MD.

Leadership

Bishop Charles E. Johnson of the Greater Morning Star Pentecostal Church in Washington, D.C., charged, Elder William H. Williams, Jr., to build upon the work began through outreach and a summer tent meeting at Henderson Park, July 8-11.  Elder Williams, an experienced pastor recently retired after over 20 years of military service, was eager to establish a permanent work in Lexington Park.

The Underground

In October 1993, the new fellowship moved to what they affectionately called “The Underground” in Millison Plaza. Their souls were being saved and lives were being transformed as many were introduced to Jesus Christ through the washing of the Word. The body could be heard witnessing to others, “Come on down to the Underground where your soul can be lifted up!” Visitors to the church were invited to “Take your shoes off and sit a spell and let the Lord bless you real good.” January 1994 saw the establishment of an enthusiastic Sunday School Department that won three small church attendance banners at the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. DC, Maryland, and Delaware Council meetings. On June 5, 1994 the young church baptized its first three members. By the end of the year, 8 souls had been saved and one had been filled with the Holy Ghost. By 1995, 19 souls were baptized in Jesus’ name and 23 were filled with the Holy Ghost.

Church Building

Also in 1995, God told Pastor Williams that we would be given a church building. In March 1995, Pastor Williams received a phone call from Virginia Gatton who said we could have, the building formerly known as Golgotha Healing Temple on Linclon Avenue as long as we kept it a church. Pastor Williams never waivered in his faith and God kept his word! Greater Morning Star II of St. Mary’s County began holding service there April 17, 1996 and the building was dedicated July 13, 1996. Many have been baptized, saved, healed, and delivered in the years that followed; but God wasn’t through blessing yet.

District Elder

Pastor Williams had been elevated to District Elder under the PAW, Inc on July 18, 1997. He served faithfully as Pastor and District Elder for the next 15 years when God moved on his heart once again to strike out on faith again look for a larger building with more land to expand. In 2010, God did the incredible again when GMSPC II purchased Calvary Baptist Church from Pastor Sam Ruckman and became the independent owners of 46375 Pegg Lane. Blessings, healing, salvation and deliverance continue to flow. GMSPC II had its first service on Pegg Lane on and was dedicated on.

New Name

Shortly, after moving into the new location, the church became independent under its own name and celebrated its 20th year in ministry to the people of St. Mary’s County. In 2014, GMSPC II became Pottershouse Apostolic Church under the pastorship of Williams H. Williams, Jr. The church continues to grow and thrive with auxiliaries for men, women, youth, Sunday school and other departments. Everyone who enters still receives the greeting we began with, “Take your shoes off, sit a spell and let the Lord bless you real good!”
